Employee Training & Mock Process Overview
Below are the full steps for training and certifying your new employees after your alias email is set up.
Step 1: Employee Training in Fastest Labs University
Have the employee log into their FTLU account using their alias email.
From the dashboard, they will navigate to Courses → Employee Training.
- Not all courses provide certificates, but for those that do, please print the certificates on regular paper and keep them on file for your records.
Step 2: DOT Urine Mocks & Certification
For this portion, you (owner/manager/clinic director) will act as the donor.
Walk the new employee through the entire DOT urine collection process, including:
- Greeting the donor
- Requesting authorization forms and ID
- Completing necessary paperwork
- Escorting donor to the lab
- Handwashing procedures
- Locker use
- Specimen collection steps
- Completing the chain of custody
- Donor signature
- Unlocking the locker and escorting donor to the front
Repeat this process until the employee can perform it confidently and without errors.
Step 3: BAT Mocks & Certification
Again, you will act as the donor.
Walk the employee through the full BAT collection process, including:
- Greeting donor
- Checking authorization forms and ID
- Completing paperwork
- Performing the Breath Alcohol Test
- Completing chain of custody and signatures
- Escorting donor to the front
Continue training until they can perform the mocks error-free.
Step 4: On-the-Job Training
This step is critical to ensuring employee independence and confidence.
- Have the new employee shadow you as you conduct various types of collections.
- Once they feel comfortable, reverse the roles so you shadow them, ensuring accuracy and preventing mistakes.
- Introduce them to each type of service one customer at a time to avoid overwhelming them.
Mock Scenarios & Required Materials
DOT UA Mocks Required
- 2 uneventful
- 1 refusal
- 1 shy bladder
- 1 out-of-temperature (requires 2 chains)
BAT Mocks Required
- 3 uneventful
- 1 refusal
- 1 positive with confirmation (use alcohol-based mouthwash)
- 1 operator terminated (ex: fire alarm, plumbing issues, family emergency)
Items Needed – DOT UA
- 6 federal paper chains (pre-filled recommended)
- 2–3 split Quest cups
- DOT verbiage/script sheet
Items Needed – BAT
- 6 BAT paper chains
- 7 BAT tubes
- Alcohol-based mouthwash
- BAT Pack (Phoenix Script, BAT Collection Guide, Proficiency Sheet)
