On-site Testing Procedure Guide( rapid with tablet)

When you arrive at the onsite location, your first step is to meet with the company’s DER (Designated Employer Representative). The DER will escort you to the testing area, which is typically near a restroom. This is where you’ll be setting up your testing station.

Preparing the Testing Area

Once in the restroom, begin by securing the area to maintain testing integrity. Apply tamper-evident tape over the sink handles and toilet handle to prevent donor interference. You’ll also need to apply the bluing agent—either tablets or liquid—to the toilet bowl. This ensures that the water cannot be used to dilute the specimen.

Next, connect your Labb tablet to Wi-Fi. Once connected, log into the Labb system. After logging in, get out the rest of your testing supplies, such as rapid test cups and the BAT (Breath Alcohol Test) machine if it will be used for this visit.

Conducting the Test

When the donor is ready, follow the same procedures as if they were being tested in the clinic. Ask for their photo ID to verify their identity. Since the DER is present in person, an authorization form is not required. Have the donor empty their pockets to ensure compliance.

On your Labb tablet, navigate to the client’s organization and select the appropriate test panel. Then, scan the donor’s ID and select the reason for testing. The donor will be prompted to sign electronically, agreeing to participate in the testing process.

Once signed, provide the donor with the rapid test cup and review the collection instructions:

  • Do not flush the toilet.
  • Do not wash hands until returning the specimen.

When the donor returns with the sample, secure the lid on the cup and immediately check the temperature strip to confirm it is within the acceptable range. If the temperature is good, proceed to scan the cup using your Labb tablet.

If the result is negative, mark it as “In Range” and click “Send & Sign.” This will automatically upload the result to the dashboard.

Handling Non-Negative Results

If the result appears non-negative, begin the specimen validation process. Wait three minutes for confirmation, then scan the cup again. If the result remains non-negative, initiate the confirmation protocol. On the Labb tablet, select “Send to Lab.”

A new page will open where you’ll need to select the specific drug(s) that showed non-negative results. Only select the actual non-negative drug(s) to avoid unnecessary confirmation charges. Once selected, click “Send to Lab” again.

After submission, apply the security seal to the specimen cup, and have the donor sign and date the seal. Place the sealed cup into a Quest or Averhealth transport bag for shipment.

Wrap-Up and Cleanup

Once testing is complete, return the donor’s ID and inform them they are free to go. Notify the DER that testing has concluded and that you’ll begin cleaning up.

Remove all tamper-evident tape from the sink and toilet handles. Dispose of all waste and used materials in your own trash bag, and take the trash back with you to discard at the clinic.
