Rapid Collection (Labb Passport)

Overview

When a client sends a donor in for a rapid test, the donor will arrive with a Labb Passport — either digital (on their phone) or printed. The passport authorizes the test and links to the donor’s company in the Labb system. As the collector, your goal is to verify identity, maintain compliance, and ensure the donor experience is quick, secure, and professional.

Step 1: Greet & Verify

Start by greeting the donor warmly and asking for two items:

  • Their Labb Passport (digital or printed)
  • Their photo ID

Check that the name on the passport matches the ID to confirm identity. This step prevents mix-ups and ensures the test is logged under the correct person.

Step 2: Confirm Readiness

Once verified, ask if the donor is ready to test or if they’d like a cup of water first.
This helps prevent delays once they’re in the testing area.

Step 3: Move to the Lab Area

Escort the donor back to the lab or testing area. Keep the process calm and professional — you’re setting the tone for the rest of the experience.

Step 4: Scan the Passport

On your Labb tablet, scan the Labb Passport to pull up the donor’s test information. This ensures all data (company, test type, and authorization) is automatically linked to their record.

Step 5: Secure Personal Items

Before beginning, ask the donor to place all personal items — phone, keys, wallet, pens, etc. — in the locker provided.
While the donor does this, you can prepare the rapid test cup. Once they’re done, lock the locker for security.

Step 6: Hand Hygiene & Consent

Have the donor wash their hands. While they do, ensure the tablet is ready for signature.
When they return, have the donor sign on the tablet — this confirms they agree to participate in testing today.

Step 7: Explain the Collection Rules

Show the donor the rapid test cup and indicate how much is required (at least 30 mL).
Keep the lid with you, and clearly explain the rules:

  • Do not flush the toilet.
  • Do not wash hands until they return the specimen.
  • They may close the restroom door for privacy.

Step 8: Receive & Check Specimen

When the donor returns, put on gloves before taking the cup.
Immediately check the temperature strip on the cup — it must be within the acceptable range.
If the temperature is good, secure the lid tightly.
If it’s out of range, follow your client’s specific protocol before proceeding.

For cases such as out of temperature, insufficient sample, nothing provided, refusal, or non-negative results, always refer to the Testing Protocol Form for detailed instructions.

Step 9: Read & Record Results

Place the sealed cup on the testing stand and scan it with the tablet to start reading results.
Keep the tablet screen turned away from the donor for confidentiality.
When the results populate:

  • If negative → click Temp In Range → then Sign & Send to upload.
  • If non-negative → follow the company’s confirmation or lab send-out procedure.

Important: The donor must stay in the room for the entire process until you finish recording results.

Step 10: Finalize & Release

Once the results have been uploaded:

  • Discard the used rapid cup properly.
  • Unlock the locker so the donor can collect their belongings.
  • Return their ID and thank them for their cooperation.

If the donor asks to see their results, politely explain that you’re not authorized to share them, and they will be sent to their employer.
