Step-by-Step Guide: Rapid Oral Collection ORF:31C (Labb Passport)

1. Greet and Verify

  • Greet the donor professionally.
  • Ask to see the donor’s Labb Passport and request their photo ID.
  • Verify the name on the ID matches the Labb Passport.

2. Move to the Lab Area

  • Grab your tablet and escort the donor to the lab/testing area.
  • On the tablet, scan the Labb Passport to pull up the test.

3. Prepare the Rapid Oral Kit

  • Retrieve a Rapid Oral Collection Kit.
  • You will also want to grab a set of stickers that come with the kits(on the paper it will have 2 stickers one with a QR code and another to put on a Quantisal kit)
  • Keep the applicator sealed in the plastic until it is given to the donor.

4. Begin the Oral Collection

  • Hand the donor the sealed applicator.
  • Instruct the donor to:
    • Open the applicator.
    • Place the cotton side inside their mouth.
    • Hold it in place for 5 minutes.
    • Tilt their head slightly down to help saliva absorb.
    • Do not bite or chew the applicator.

5. Confirm Collection is Ready

  • After 5 minutes, check the stem:
    • If the stem is red, the sample is ready for testing.

6. Insert Applicator into Tube

  • Put on gloves.
  • Have the donor hand you the applicator.
  • Place the applicator into the testing tube.

7. Develop Test Strips

  • Wait an additional 5 minutes for the test strips to develop before scanning the QR code.

8. Scan and Record Results

  • After the 5-minute development time
  • With the stickers that come with the kits, you will want to peel off the small sticker with the QR code and place it on the testing tube( that sticker is going to link the test to your lab dashboard)
  • Wait for the test results to populate.

9. Finalize the Test

  • If the result is negative, click “Sign & Send.”
  • Results will upload to the company’s portal.

10. Release the Donor

  • Return the donor’s photo ID.
  • Let them know they are good to go.
  • If the donor asks for results, explain that all results are reported directly to the company.
